Ending Violence in the Workplace: An Education, Prevention & Skill Development Seminar Many nonprofit organizations recognize the importance of taking a proactive approach to dealing with violence and harassment within the workplace. Violence is harmful to all concerned - the victim, the staff, volunteers or others involved, and the organization as a whole. The aim of this seminar is to encourage a workplace culture in which everybody treats co-workers with respect and dignity, and where all steps are taken to minimize the occurrence of lateral violence. This session looks at and examines good practice for each worker and the organization. Hands-on practical solutions are developed with participants along with examining factors that lead to successfully eliminating or preventing workplace violence. Facilitator Bio: Justine B. Howarth has over 28 years of planning, research, organizational and community development experience with a variety of community benefit organizations. Justine’s systemic analysis of oppression and a respect for diversity in every form are reflected in all of the work that she does. Justine’s belief systems, combined with her experience, have made her sensitive to process, but she also keeps her eye on the task so you can count on Justine to produce outcomes within the agreed time frame. She has a B.A. and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Date: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Location: Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington, 46 Cork Street East, Guelph Participant limit: 16 people Fee: $100 per person (includes lunch)
