On September 6, 2013, Guelph Independent Living (GIL) will host its Fall Fair gala from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the gymnasium of ARC Industries, located at 8 Royal Road in Guelph, ON. All proceeds from the fair will go toward purchasing a mobility vehicle for GIL clients for emergency and out of town medical appointments and recreation and leisure activities. GIL has already raised over half of the estimated $60,000 for the vehicle through fundraising efforts and generous public donations and hopes the event will realize the dream of convenient and affordable mobility transportation for adults with disabilities and senior clients. The fair will feature games and prizes for children, bingo for adults, a line dancing demonstration, a caricaturist, balloon and henna artists, a craft table, a raffle table, a barbeque dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs and a grand prize raffle draw. Tickets went on sale Monday, July 22, 2013. The costis $20 for GIL clients and children, $30 for adults and $70 for a family of four (two adults and two children) and includes kids’ games and prizes, dinner, line dancing and a complimentary ticket for the grand prize draw of a picnic table from the ARC Industries wood working shop. GIL thanks its sponsors for the events, which include Prestige Tent & Rentals, M&M Meat Shops, Community Living Guelph Wellington and Synergy Design. With their assistance, all profits will go directly to the mobility vehicle fund. It is well know that there is insufficient access to mobility transportation to permit adults with disabilities and frail seniors from venturing much further than their local transit routes. With so much to do beyond the regular community bus stops, this limits GIL’s clients from completely integrating and participating in the community. Additionally, trips using mobility service require reservations made 48-hours in advance. This does not provide much opportunity for spontaneity in clients’ lives unless they can afford to pay for taxi services, and we all know the limited incomes on which adults with disabilities and seniors struggle to survive. We at GIL want to expand the current travel options available to these marginalized groups by purchasing a mobility vehicle to ensure they are fully engaged and active members of society. To achieve this goal, GIL needs to fundraise for the purchase, as the funding the agency receives from the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network all goes to providing client programs and services. As a result, GIL will hold its Fall Fair gala on September 6, 2013. Contact Victoria Miron to order your tickets at (519) 836-1812, ext. 33, or by email At victoria@guelphindependentliving.org. GIL is a non-profit agency incorporated in 1975 that provides personal care and support services to adults with permanent physical disabilities and frail seniors 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The organization provides Assisted Living, Attendant Outreach, Home Help, Seniors’ Assisted Living, and Seniors’ Supported Living programs, as well as recreation and inclusion opportunities, to its clients. Additionally, GIL owns and maintains Willow Place, an 83-unit affordable housing complex, which also serves as an Assisted Living site.

We provide resources and
leadership to enable the development
of people and organizations.
